Mom in the 80's. This is one of my favorite images of my mother - it really embodies her spirit - then and now.

- Hello! I'm Alex, an early 30-something who resides in downtown LA with my husband, pup, and portly cat. I work in TV and Film, oscillating between different departments as I weave a web of a career and try to figure out how to be a better person. As a collector of beautiful things I'd like to take this opportunity to share the little things in life that make me smile...

it's the little things that make me smile: today it's my mom, only 20 minutes away
For the first time in 12 years my mother and I live in the same city. And it's done wonders for our relationship. Yesterday I drove the 20 minutes to her house and helped her unpack boxes. Sifting through 70 years of memories, reminiscing, sharing stories. While it brought me great joy to take her out for a Mother's Day dinner it was the little moments of sorting and storing, that made me smile. A purely organic bonding experience, something that up until this point was forced and rushed, cramped into long weekends. Spending the afternoon with my mother - a little thing that makes me smile.
